Western Australia Travel

As all main roads are sealed, with short distances between towns and attractions, travelling by car is a great way to explore Australia's South West. It is an ideal region to self drive with a good network of roads and signs. There is an impressive variety of scenery throughout the region with facilities available at regular intervals.

Hire cars are available from Perth or in other major towns within the region such as Bunbury, Albany and Busselton. Road maps and directories are available from most newsagents and some convenience stores.

A four wheel drive (4WD) adventure is one not to be missed in Western Australia. With its rugged terrain and unpopulated plains, it's the perfect place to embark on an off-road adventure

In a four wheel drive, you can delve into the most remote corners of this magnificent state.

Another superb spot for a four wheel drive adventure is Cape Le Grand National Park in Esperance

Cape Le Grand is a wild coastal landscape featuring rugged granite cliffs, massive sand dunes, sweeping heathlands and untamed inland swamps.

You can drive yourself, but for local knowledge and country style hospitality take a half or full-day four wheel drive tour with a local tour operator.

Expect to see plenty of kangaroos, emus, wedge-tailed eagles and camels along your journey.

NOTE: Always inform someone of your travel plans - especially if you intend to go off the beaten track. Any four wheel drive adventure requires drivers to take necessary precautions to ensure a safe journey. The vehicle should be properly equipped with a comprehensive tool, puncture repair and first aid kit, as well as sufficient water and food. In the event of a breakdown stay with your vehicle - it is easier to find than an individual.
